Jack Abbott and Chelsea Newman haven’t spent much time together in Genoa City. But The Young and the Restless decided to pair their respective portrayers, Peter Bergman and Melissa Claire Egan, and have them interview one another.
During the interview, the two co-stars got to know one another a little bit, revealing new subject matter to the fans and followers in the process.
Egan asked Bergman what it was like when he played on YR both Jack and his doppelganger Marco Annicelli, a drug lord, in 2015. “It was daunting,” Bergman said, especially in scenes where he’d be acting with himself. “My favorite thing about it was that Marco had a ‘thing’ for Ashley [Eileen Davidson]. I used to literally scare her [as Marco] came onto her.”
Bergman, in turn, asked Egan if she were happy to be back at work. “It’s been wonderful,” the actress responded. “I feel euphoric when I come home from work now. I love our job.” Egan laments that co-stars and colleagues can’t give a friendly embrace hello or goodbye in order to maintain work protocols in light of COVID-19, but she says, “I feel really safe. We’re testing twice a week.”
“I feel safer at work than anywhere else,” Bergman notes. “I’m thrilled to be back. I haven’t stopped working in 40 years.” Of course, no interview would be complete between these two actors without a mention of the other soap they both have in common — All My Children.
Bergman played Cliff in Pine Valley for most of the 1980s. He was barely out of work before YR cast him as Jack Abbott. Egan played Annie Novak on AMC starting in 2006. The actress wanted to know if Bergman brought anything of Cliff’s with him when he took on Jack.
“Cliff could not be more different than Jack,” Bergman informed his co-star. Ironically, he says he was more cast as Jack-like characters until Cliff came along. “When I started playing Jack that was more of what I’d done before,” he says.
The actors would both love to share screen-time together in Genoa City so, don’t be surprised if, eventually, Jack and Chelsea cross paths! For the full interview, check out the post below. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
