During his downtime due to the coronavirus, Doug Davidson has been looking back at one of The Young and the Restless’ most popular storylines, the George Rawlins murder mystery. In the actor’s latest look back, the plot gets cold as ice — dry ice, that is.
Davidson’s private eye character, Paul Williams, had fallen for the enigmatic Cassandra (Nina Arvesen), who may or may not have had a hand in the murder of her husband George. Suspicion fell on Cassandra’s lover Adrian Hunter (Mark Derwin), who was growing more dangerous by the moment.
Adrian used some dry ice to rig a pistol aimed at a dummy’s head. When the dry ice changed from a solid to a gas, the trigger pulled and a bullet struck the mannequin. Adrian planned to employ this same technique to bump off Cassandra. Meanwhile, Victor brought Paul up to speed on Cassandra’s state of mind. Paul visited Cassandra and while he felt he couldn’t fully trust her, he did still love her very much.
Cassandra urged Paul that no matter what happened to her that he should go on and live his life. Her words would later turn fateful, but in the meantime, Paul wanted to keep Cassandra alive. They shared a passionate kiss, which proved that there was still a strong attraction between them.
While Davidson narrates the segments of this classic episode, the actor doesn’t do these productions alone. “These episodes couldn’t be made possible without the incredible @joymathys, @calyssadavidson and Gareth Murphy,” Davidson writes on Instagram. “Thank you!”
After this story wrapped up, Derwin was quickly scooped up by Guiding Light to play good guy A.C. Mallet. He remained on the show for a few years and enjoyed a successful pairing with Beth Ehlers’ Harley. He later played Ben on One Life to Live opposite Erika Slezak’s Viki. More recently, Derwin popped up on an episode of Fox’s 9-1-1. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
