Fans Speak Out About Dr. Meredith Leaving Young and the Restless

After first arriving on the soap opera scene over 20 years ago, Alicia Coppola joined “The Young and the Restless” in early spring as Dr. Meredith Gates.

Last week, the actress sent a tweet thanking fans for their support, indicating a probable departure from the soap. Considering Victor (Eric Braeden) looks like he’s reuniting with Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), there no longer seems to be a place for the good doctor on the Genoa City Canvas.

Soap Hub asked how you feel about Meredith leaving and you have some mixed feelings

The Results
With over 6,000 votes, 49% are okay with Meredith’s exit. You realize that without Victor’s attention, there won’t be a lot for her to do. Coppola is too talented an actress to sit around as window dressing. Perhaps this will free her up for an even better role elsewhere.

Please Don’t Go
Not far behind percentage-wise, 41% of you are sad to lose Meredith. There are plenty of things she could do if given the chance. As one Twitter follower noted, Jack (Peter Bergman) is hurt and needing someone to help nurse his broken heart. Who better than a doctor! And let’s face it – there’s certainly plenty of history with Jack and Victor involved with the same woman. Regardless, people get sick all the time. Having a doctor on hand whom the audience cares about can’t be a bad thing, can it?

The final 10% are unsure if they’ll miss Dr. Gates. You’re probably thinking that Meredith and Victor didn’t really work so her being out of the way isn’t a bad thing. However, you might see the potential she could have had elsewhere. Either way, you’ll keep watching Y&R and enjoying your show.
