In honor of reaching the milestone 12,000th episode, The Young and the Restless continues its celebration — this time sharing an amazing video of that onscreen mother and son duo, Jess Walton (Jill) and Jason Thompson (Billy), interviewing each other.
While they definitely know their characters quite well, the two stars were excited to get to know each other a little bit better. They immediately bond over the fact they both hail from Canada (which means they’re both nice people, they acknowledge), while Walton is thrilled to finally have an onscreen son whose hair color matches her own.
Walton takes it in stride when Thompson acknowledges that she was already on YR when she was his age. She arrived in Genoa City in 1987, and it was an amazing time at the show and it prompted Walton to share some incredible backstage memories with her younger co-star.
“That was around the time of the masked ball, do you remember seeing all those pictures from the masked ball,” she asked Thompson, who admitted those scenes were before his time being old enough to watch soaps. “Funnily enough,” continues Walton, “looking back on all these years, that was probably the most memorable time as a whole, nothing to do with story, but we were all together.
“We were all in costume, we were all in makeup, we were all hiding from the stage managers behind the sets,” she reveals. “They kept wanting to use us dancing and our feet were killing us. I think it went on for two or three days. So it was one of the most memorable times on the show.”
Find out what else is revealed by watching Jess Walton and Jason Thompson chat in the tweet below, which was shared by the official Twitter handle for the show. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
