Ever since Dina returned to The Young and the Restless this final time, fans suspected something was wrong. Not only that she was selling her company, but that she seemed to have been bamboozled by a younger man who didn’t have Dina’s (Marla Adams) best interests at heart.
The Young and the Restless Polling
Eventually, the truth came out: Dina was suffering fro Alzheimer’s Disease, and her deterioration led to stories ranging from Ashley (Eileen Davidson) using Dina’s failing memory to convince Jack (Peter Bergman) he was illegitimate, to the discovery of Theo (Tyler Johnson) being Dina’s long-lost grandson, to the current Great Necklace Hunt. Good Move
Emotional and educational is what 83% of the audience called Dina’s deterioration. So many of you are dealing with a similar situation at home, that it was reassuring to see your extended TV family go through the same thing.
Dina was able to finally make peace with her children, and they were able to forgive her for abandoning them and never giving any of the three more than a moment’s thought in the subsequent decades. You’re so happy they got that chance. If Dina had died alone, that never would have happened.
Escape From Genoa City
We watch soaps for escapism, not reality, 17% of you remind – and seeing a woman fade away while her children suffer and cry is not your idea of a good time. Dina is a complicated character, to begin with. There are as many reasons to hate her as to love her. Are you really supposed to care that she’s forgetting children she barely remembered while she was still healthy?
The world is currently sad enough. You tune into soaps to live vicariously and romantically, not to cry over a woman you didn’t approve of in the first place. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
