We’ve read about soaps shutting down production or hitting the pause button after positive COVID-19 test results among personnel have come to light. However, The Young and the Restless is staying on course, despite two members of the show’s team getting a positive result.
According to Deadline, two members of the show’s production team tested positive on Sunday, November 1, and people at the show were informed the same day. The individuals who tested positive have begun self-quarantining, individuals who were in close contact with the affected people have been notified, and work areas are being cleaned.
The show is taking steps to honor individuals’ privacy. The positive tests were a result of YR’s safety protocols. The production, according to Deadline believes that neither of the two individuals who tested positive has impacted the show’s ability to continue taping scenes this week.
The show is set to tape a big family event featuring 15 actors, who will be in close proximity. (This could be for the show’s upcoming 12,000th episode, set to air later this year.) YR resumed production in July after shutting down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The hour-long drama began airing new episodes on August 10.
In January of this year, CBS renewed the William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell-created soap for four more years, which will take it through its 50th anniversary in 2023. YR debuted on March 26, 1973. The original families on the then-half-hour soap were the Brooks and the Foster clans. Today, Jill Foster (Jess Walton) continues to recur on the show. Earlier this year, viewers learned that Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) is the grandson of Stuart Brooks (Bob Colbert) and Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams).
YR’s longest-running cast members are Melody Thomas Scott, who earlier this year, celebrated 40 years as Nikki Reed Newman, and Doug Davidson, who recurs as Paul Williams. YR’s executive producer is Tony Morina. The show’s head writer/co-executive producer is Josh Griffith. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
