On The Young and the Restless, young Scott Grainger has a tendency to go missing rather regularly.
It all started when he was a baby, and resident lunatic Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) kidnapped the newborn from mom Lauren (Tracey Bregman), switching him with another baby (available newborn babies apparently float around Genoa City for the taking).
Sheila did it so she could pass Scott off as her own child with Scott’s father, also named Scott. But then Lauren’s fake son died and the truth came out.
(Switched soap babies have a very high mortality rate, as, the moment the biological child is found, the substitute becomes redundant, see: Days of Our Lives Sami and poor, dead Grace, among others.)
Lauren got Scott back and, like all good soap parents, promptly shipped him off to boarding school. She claimed it was to protect him from a vindictive Sheila, but, honestly, it was just part of the Genoa City course.
As a result, Scotty grew up resenting his mother – and fell under Sheila’s spell anyway. Since then, he’s lived and worked in Canada, Europe and, currently, the Middle East (we can assume that Lauren is, once again, keeping the details vague due to her Sheila-paranoia).

He might currently be held against his will but, since the show announced that Daniel Hall will be assuming the role, it’s a good bet that Lauren’s prodigal son will be heading home to Genoa City shortly.
Are you excited about this legacy character’s return? Here’s what almost 6000 of you had to say:
It’s So Nice To Have You Back Where You Belong
Genoa City can always use fresh blood – as long as it’s connected to a core family. Scott’s mom lives in town and, yes, technically, there’s his aunt, Jill (Jess Walton) but, otherwise, he isn’t nearly as biologically intertwined as other characters in his age cohort.
Which means he could hook up with almost anybody, and 74% of you are really looking forward to the possibilities!
Do Something Interesting, First
Sure, having Lauren’s son back sounds great on paper, but it all depends on what the writers choose to do with him, so 16% of fans are taking a wait-and-see attitude until he actually shows up and delivers the goods.
No Room at the Inn
Oh, come on, the canvas is already overcrowded, with long-time favorites showing up maybe once a week if fans are lucky. Play the characters you have, insist 10% of viewers, before you bring on yet another newbie.
