On The Young and the Restless, Abby Newman-Abbott Chancellor named her new baby boy, Dominic. She did it to honor her little one’s sperm donor Devon Hamilton and the woman who carried him — a surrogate and good friend, Mariah Copeland.

“See, there’s the D for Devon and the M for Mariah,” Abby burbled obliviously. “Yup, right there, Mariah agreed, obviously less than thrilled. “The third letter.”

Maybe if Abby (Melissa Ordway) had thought a little harder, she might have been able to come up with a way to give Mariah (Camryn Grimes) – the woman who’d just spent weeks kidnapped in order to protect their child – top billing. How about MaDdox…like Jolie-Pit. Or MaDs…like Mikkelson. MaDden…like Karl. The point is, there were options.
Ladies First
But let’s get real. Mariah’s contribution to this baby’s existence was a great deal more intense than Devon’s (Bryton James). She deserves a lot more than a single letter.

Did Abby consider MARk? MARcus? MARtin? MARshall? Or, if she doesn’t want to get the two confused, get a bit more creative. How about RIAHan? (She can spell it Ryan, so the poor little guy doesn’t have to go through life correcting people.) MARk Ryan Chancellor has a nice ring to it. And is much less likely to make Mariah feel like she’s a second – or third – thought.
Or, if you feel you must offer a hat-tip to Devon, go with: Mark RIDell. Sure, there’s a director named Mark Rydell. But…who cares?
Back To Basics
Then again, maybe we should just be grateful that Abby didn’t default to Phillip the… what are we up to now? Kay Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) husband was Phillip Jr. The baby Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) gave birth to was Phillip the Third, and he fathered Phillip the Fourth before faking his death and exiting his son’s life for about to decades. That son is Chance, so this might have been Phillip the 5th. Even Dominic is more creative than that.
