Even before Dru fell off that cliff to her presumed death on The Young and the Restless, her portrayer, Victoria Rowell has been one of Hollywood’s busiest actresses. Now, her series, The Rich and the Ruthless has landed on a new platform.
Victoria Rowell Series Lands New Home
Deadline reports that The Rich and the Ruthless’s new home, starting Thursday, May 13, is BET+, BET’s streaming service. It’s TRTR’s fourth season that joins BET+. Seasons 1-3 are already available on the platform.
Rowell is the creator, star (she plays Kitty Barringer), and director of TRTR. The series takes a humorous look at life behind the scenes of a fictional black-owned daytime serial. There’s plenty of drama in the show, too, as the family that owns the series fights to stay in control of the show.
The show stars Richard Brooks (Good Trouble), Alesha Reneé (Kenan), Robert Ri’chard (Harlem), Chrystale Wilson (All the Queens Men), Michael Colyar (BET’s Hollywood Heartbreak), Dawnn Lewis (Star Trek; Lower Decks), Vivian Lamolli (All the Queens Men), Kristen Mako (The Big Rant), and Bryton James (Devon, YR), as well as newcomer Akilah Releford.
Rowell was nominated for three Daytime Emmys in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role as YR’s Dru. She won 11 NAACP Image awards for playing the part.
Rowell joined YR in 1990 as Mamie’s (Veronica Redd) niece. The show paired her with Kristoff St. John (Neil) and the two quickly emerged as one of the show’s (and daytime’s) most popular super-couples. The pair dealt with Dru questioning the paternity of their daughter Lily (Christel Khalil), Dru not wanting to have another child, and other conflicts.
The couple wed twice and were separated when Dru was presumed dead after struggling with Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) near a cliff. Dru and Sharon fell. Sharon survived, but Dru’s body was never recovered.
Rowell returned to YR for a non-scripted show in which cast members gathered to reminisce onscreen about St. John after his untimely passing in 2019. To get the BET+ app to see TRTR, click here. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
