The Young and the Restless Alum Jerry Douglas Has A Health News Update

For years, Jerry Douglas played John Abbott, the patriarch of the Abbott clan, on The Young and the Restless. In real life, Douglas is a great family man, too. He’s married to TV personality Kym Douglas (The Ellen Show) and they have a son, Hunter, who recently graduated from college.

Jerry Douglas and Son Celebrate Special Milestones

“If you watched my previous post and read the caption you will understand this,” Kym explained in her Instagram post. “[Jerry Douglas] got the best diploma you could ever get today. It was for finishing 37 full radiation treatment sessions with Courage, Strength, and Perseverance at @uclahealth.

“They told us they don’t give these to many people so it was extra special and we Douglases stand together & face what comes our way,” Kym added. “He is all done and now the healing begins! Hope this encourages you to face your battle, no matter how hard it may be. We are all in this together.”

Douglas’s TV daughter Eileen Davidson (Ashley) responded to the post on Kym’s page. “Amazing! You two are such inspirations. Love you both,” Davidson wrote. Douglas’s former TV daughter-in-law Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) wrote, “YES!!!!!!!! We LOVE UCLA!!!!! They are spectacular.”

“Wow! Congratulations!!! You all are so amazing and I love you so much,” wrote Catherine Bach, who recurs on YR as Anita, Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) mother.

Less than a month ago, Jerry and Kym attended Hunter’s graduation from USC. Kym captured a warm moment between father and son, which she shared on Instagram. “Best moment of the day,” Kym wrote. “Father & Son Graduation Day. He never missed one of his practices, he never missed any of his games so a bad throat health issue was not going to keep him away today! #strength.”

As YR fans recall, Douglas played John Abbott from 1982 to 2006. Tragically, the Abbott patriarch died shortly after being released from jail for killing Tom Fisher (Roscoe Born). YR wasn’t ready to fully say goodbye to Douglas, however. He briefly played the part of a doppelganger of John’s named Alistair Wallingford. However, fans responded more positively to John’s appearances as Jack’s conscience. John also appeared this way in scenes with Ashley and Traci (Beth Maitland), too.

Soap Hub joins Jerry Douglas’s loved ones and supporters in congratulating the actor for completing his treatments and we wish him continued healing! The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
