“Thirty-one years ago, she held me my first day on set…” James shared on Instagram. “And now, I have the honor of sharing the stage once again with the incomparable @telma_hopkins !!!! DON’T MISS #YR starting 6/1 👀👀#familymatters…”
Entertainment Weekly first reported the news of Hopkins’ casting. She’ll play the character of Denise Tolliver, a private eye, who brings shocking news about the past of Amanda. Hopkins and James are set to share the airwaves together once more for the first time since Family Matters wrapped up its run in 1998.
Watch for Hopkins to appear in multiple episodes starting Tuesday, June 1, which will also mark the return of Mishael Morgan to her role as Amanda. Karla Mosley has been temporarily filling in while the actress recovered from eye surgery.
James and Hopkins aren’t the only Family Matters stars tied to Genoa City. The late Michelle Thomas (Myra) played Malcolm’s (Shemar Moore) love interest Callie on YR in 1998. Darius McCary (Eddie) played Malcolm on YR from 2009 to 2011.
Hopkins is also known as part of the singing group Tony Orlando and Dawn. The trio was comprised of Tony Orlando, Hopkins, and Joyce Vincent Wilson. The group was known for its hit songs “Tie a Yellow Ribbon,” “Candida,” and “He Don’t Love You (Like I Love You).” Hopkins’ other acting credits include series regular roles on Half & Half, Getting By, Are We There Yet?, Partners, and Gimme a Break!
Currently, Amanda is defending her grandfather Sutton Aames (Jack Landron), who is under suspicion in the death of Amanda’s birth father Richard Nealon. Will Denise’s information affect Amanda’s case? Don’t miss Telma Hopkins’s debut to find out! The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
