Steve Burton had two choices to make this year — stay on at The Young and the Restless where he played Dylan McAvoy or return to General Hospital and his role as Jason Morgan. As viewers know, he chose GH, and he recently made yet another a decision to align himself with the ABC soap.
The actor tells Soap Hub that he chose his work on GH for consideration at this year’s Daytime Emmys — not his performances on Y&R.
As eagle-eyed Y&R viewers know, Burton appeared in scenes that aired a year ago when the eligibility for this year’s awards began.
“I had to decide between Y&R and GH and I went with GH,” Burton says.
“It was something I thought about for a long time,” the actor adds. “It just didn’t feel right. I didn’t want to muddy it up.”
The actor shot many Emmy-worthy episodes on GH that aired in the last quarter of 2017, but he had great performances on Y&R in January as Dylan, too.
“I had great story when I left,” Burton says about his last weeks on Y&R.
The actor, who has two Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Daytime Emmys on his mantel (one for GH’s Jason in 1998, the other for Y&R’s Dylan in 2017), could have submitted for both shows. However, if he had, votes might have split among his supporters and he could have lost out on being nominated for either series.
“I had a great run [on Y&R],” he says. “I was there and I won and now, I’ve come home to GH and I’m here.”
