The mystery of Mariah’s whereabouts is all over Y&R spoilers and worry continues to grow – much like the unborn child she’s carrying! Sure, the expectant mother is presumably okay per the text messages she’s been sending, but as this is a soap opera, perhaps there’s something more nefarious afoot?
Tessa (Cait Fairbanks), Abby (Melissa Ordway), and Nina (Tricia Cast) have all compared notes as to what else could be going on. Tessa noted that Ian Ward (Ray Wise) is in prison so, he’s not likely behind Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) absence. She also doesn’t think that Mariah being missing is connected to the sex ring that got a hold of her sister Crystal (Morgan Obenreder).
But this doesn’t mean that Mariah’s not in danger. Who else might have it in for her? Or Abby? Perhaps there’s a connection between Mariah’s absence and the unborn child’s paternal grandmother that goes back to Nina’s early days on Y&R. Viewers first met the character when she was pregnant with Chance’s older brother Ronan (Jeff Branson).
Black market baby broker Rose DeVille (played by the late, great Darlene Conley, ex-Sally, The Bold and the Beautiful) had conned Nina into giving up her baby – even though the then-teen character wasn’t ready to let go of her child.
In 2011, Y&R introduced another crooked adoption agent in Primrose DeVille, Rose’s niece, played by Ellen Greene. Primrose arranged to take Daisy Carter’s (Yvonne Zima) baby Lucy, fathered by Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), and sell her to Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) so that he and then-wife Victoria (Amelia Heinle) could have a child. (This was during a time when Victoria believed she couldn’t get pregnant again.)
Primrose negotiated a hefty sum in order to give Billy and Victoria a daughter – a cool $2 million! Billy met the baby unaware that Daniel was the little girl’s dad. He fell in love instantly and paid the money for the baby but later, little Lucy was reunited with her dad.
Could Primrose be behind Mariah’s absence? Is Rose’s niece looking to steal the baby and either sell it or hold the infant for ransom? She may have singled out Abby’s child given that there’s a connection with Nina. Devon (Bryton James) is the baby’s biological father. As a billionaire, he’s in a position to pay a huge sum of money to ensure the safe return of both Mariah and the unborn child.
Introducing Primrose to this story would give Nina more to do and we’re in favor of any plot twist that pushes Cast to the forefront. It’s great to have her back in Genoa City but she’s mostly been regulated to being a supportive “talk to.” Cast is a Daytime Emmy winner and is one of the show’s most respected actresses. Watching her go up against Primrose would be a throwback to Nina’s confrontations with the late Rose. Stay tuned to see if the show goes in this direction.
