The Young and the Restless spoilers for Monday, June 22, 2020 promise the start of Emmy week, with classic episodes that won performers an Emmy award for their troubles. We shine the spotlight on Beth Maitland, as Traci tries to commit suicide in this episode from 1984. Also, Nikki attempts to reunite Victor with the mother who left him in an orphanage.

The Young and the Restless Spoilers Highlights

The Young and the Restless had already made it to the top of the ratings heap by 1984 (and there were about three times more soaps on, so it used to be harder to claim ‘We’re #1’). But they had yet to win any love from the Daytime Emmy Blue Ribbon Panel. Maitland became the first to win.

How did she do it? Well, Traci was being her most Traci-esque. She fell in love with her college professor (Bad Move #1). She slept with her college professor (Bad Move #2). She thought this meant they were exclusive (Bad Move #3). She caught him in bed with another student and completely fell apart (Bad Move #4).

Devastated, Traci tried to commit suicide. Danny (Michael Damian) and Christine (Lauralee Bell) rushed to the rescue at the last minute. Traci got to live. Beth Maitland got an Emmy.

Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men

Considering that Victor (Eric Braeden) uses his mother leaving him in an orphanage as the excuse for every single bad deed he commits, did Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) really think he’d welcome said mother’s return with open arms? Uh, yeah, actually, she did.

Nikki was wrong. Victor wants nothing to do with Cora (Dorothy MacGuire), despite Nikki’s encouragement.

He explains why in an aria of self-pity that almost matches Traci’s. Except Braeden would have to wait another 13 years for his Emmy. And you’ll have to wait for Tuesday to see that episode. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
