The Young and the Restless may still be America’s number one soap opera, but every soap needs a little spicing up every once in a while.

The Young and the Restless Polling

It’s still beautiful to look at. It’s still got a crop of very talented actors. But what can make it even better? We asked over 2,000 fans what you think the show needs:

Homeward Bound

A majority 53% told us that you’re aching to see some familiar faces return to Genoa City. Where’s Jill (Jess Walton)? Where’s Cane (Daniel Goddard)? Where are Fen (Zack Tinker) and Arturo (Jason Canela) and Noah (Robert Adams) and Dru (Victoria Rowell)? The town feels awfully small and insular. We need more citizens to shake it up!

Whodunit?

Then again, 26% of you seem to think Genoa City is currently overcrowded, as you’d like to see a juicy murder mystery shake up the town. Who should bite the bullet? It would need to be somebody important enough to affect every core player.

Adam (Mark Grossman) is the obvious choice. Everybody hates him. But he’d also be the expected one. How about Phyllis (Michelle Stafford)? She’s also got her detractors. Or Billy (Jason Thompson)? Or how about somebody everybody loves, like Traci (Beth Maitland)? That would be a real head-scratcher. Just make something happen! (And then whoever dies can come back from the dead.)

All Aboard

It doesn’t have to be a murder mystery, 21% of the audience hedges, any story which involves the whole cast would do. Everyone is in their own bubble these days – we get it, COVID quarantine. But it makes for less impactful storytelling.

What we’d like to see happen is the ripple effect. Whatever affects one, affects all. Why not some large scale disaster like a snowstorm? An earthquake. A pandemic… Let’s see Genoa City band together to fight an outside threat… and each other. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
