Soap Opera Ratings Report: Surprise Soap Takes Top Demo Spot

The latest soap opera Nielsen ratings are in and there’s been a shakeup in the rankings in the coveted Women 18-49 years of age demographic. But the ratings order for total household viewers remains the same. How did your favorite serial fare?

Soap Opera Ratings

General Hospital took the top spot in the W18-49 demographic, which is the one coveted by advertisers, earning a .39. Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless tied for second place with a .36. The Bold and the Beautiful came in fourth place with .33.

In households, YR scored a 2.16 earning the most viewers, BB was second with 1.82, GH was in third place with a 1.54, and DAYS was in 4th place with a 1.24. Each ratings point is equal to 1.210 million viewers so, YR had 2.6 million viewers. BB had 2.2 million. GH brought in 1.86 million viewers. DAYS had 1.5 million viewers.

What stories were gripping viewers last week? On Christmas Eve, Amanda (Mishael Morgan) attempted to track down her biological mother with the help of Devon (Bryton James). Jack (Peter Bergman) reflected on a Christmas past with his mother Dina (Marla Adams). Elena was torn between Nate (Sean Dominic) and Devon.

The Bold and the Beautiful

Over on BB, the late Stephanie’s (Susan Flannery) portrait was hung over the Forrester fireplace for Christmas Eve. Eric hosted an intimate gathering for the holiday. Paris (Diamond White) and Zoe (Kiara Barnes) sang holiday tunes.

General Hospital

On GH, Julian’s (William deVry) body was found after part of a bridge he was on collapsed. Sonny (Maurice Benard) went missing after the fall. Finn (Michael Easton) explained to Anna (Finola Hughes) that he’d once had a relationship with Jackie (Kim Delaney), but that he was sure that Chase (Josh Swickard) was not his son.

Days of our Lives

Finally, on DAYS, Shawn (Brandon Beemer) and Belle (Martha Madison) got married. Doug (Bill Hayes) and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) hosted the annual ceremony where ornaments with family members’ names on them were hung. Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) believed that Ciara (Victoria Konefal) had come back to him for the holidays, but it was just a dream.
