Television has had its share of female detectives and social issue champions — Nancy Drew, Charlie’s Angels, and even The Young and the Restless‘ own Cricket Blair. Now, Y&R’s Sharon Newman can be added to that list in light of her constantly involving herself in tracking down the sex trafficking ring in Genoa City.
But should the crisis hotline volunteer/coffee shop owner be brought up on charges for not letting the police handle matters? Soap Hub asked Y&R viewers to weigh in on this. Read on for the results!
Sharon Newman AKA Police Woman!
The majority of you, just under 74%, feel that Sharon should not be arrested for helping the police. Let’s face it, the Genoa City Police Department doesn’t have the best track record for solving crimes quickly despite having responsible personnel over the years including Dylan, Paul, and Paul’s dad Carl Williams.
Alas, the force has also had less than reputable team members including Det. Mark Harding (we still miss this bad boy). Maybe Sharon should get a medal?
Book ‘Em, Dano!
The rest of you, just over 26%, feel that Sharon should be arrested for her actions so that she’ll get out of the police department’s way. Perhaps, Paul’s holding off on putting the cuffs on Sharon because he considers her family — courtesy of her marriage to his son, Dylan.
But Sharon would likely benefit from involving Paul in her ideas and plans, working together to make sure the girls in the sex-trafficking ring are safe.
Career Change
Maybe Sharon should apply for an official position at the police station and get an employee badge like Kevin did.
While probably nobody in town has his computer skills, Sharon’s proved that she has determination and grit — two qualities that are a benefit to any crimefighter. Y&R has a history of savvy female detectives on the show (Salena Wylie, Maggie Sullivan), so maybe it’s time the GCPD added another!
The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
