It’s a big day “Young and the Restless” fans as the news of Executive Producer Jill Phelps’s firing has been confirmed.
For years, fans have appealed to the network to replace the Emmy-winning producer. Throughout Phelps time on the show, they were critical of slow-moving storylines, losing a much-loved writing team, and big named stars such as Michelle Stafford (ex-Phyllis), Michael Muhney (ex-Adam), and Billy Miller (ex-Billy) exiting the show.
Phone calls, sit-ins, petitions, and even social media anger pages went up in droves. The fans begged, pleaded, and cried for CBS to fire Phelps. But, until recently, the network, and many actors stood by her side, maintaining she was doing the best for her show.
To her credit, Phelps also brought a lot of good things to Y&R. Justin Hartley (Adam) is hailed as one of the best recasts in daytime history. She also introduced Steve Burton (Dylan) to Genoa City, and brought on the much-loved Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea).
Die hard fans have stuck with the show through thick and thin, enduring both good times and bad with Phelps. While fans widely agree the producer changed the face of the show, her efforts to enhance the soap never went overlooked.
As Y&R moves into its next era with Mal Young at the helm, viewers may experience even bigger changes. Will the grass really be greener on the other side?
