Shemar Moore has had many notable roles over the course of his career, including playing Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds for over 10 years and his role on the CBS primetime hit, S.W.A.T. He also started on a soap.

Along with his long-running TV roles, Moore has also appeared on programs such as Soul Train and Birds of Prey. From where he was born and raised to winning a Daytime Emmy Award, here are five fast facts about the actor.

Who Is Shemar Moore?

Moore was born on April 20 in Oakland, California. His mother was a teacher in Denmark and Bahrain, so Moore grew up overseas until the age of 7. They then returned to the U.S. and settled in Chico, California. Moore graduated from Gunn High School in Palo Alto and attended Santa Clara University, majoring in communications and minoring in theater.

Soap Beginnings
Moore was cast as Malcolm Winters on The Young and the Restless and was on the show for eight years. He originally planned to leave the show in 2004, but he returned for a brief bit before officially leaving in 2005. He returned recently to honor his former co-star/mentor Kristoff St. John, who died suddenly and had played his brother Neil.

Winner, Winner
Moore has been nominated for three Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on The Young and the Restless. He was nominated twice for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series and won his Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2000.

Monumental Moment

In what has to be one of the biggest moments in Daytime Emmys history, Moore was the lucky one who presented soap icon Susan Lucci with her only Daytime Emmy Award for her 19th nomination. She had the longest streak of nominations without a win, which is why when Moore announced her name he memorably yelled, “The streak is over!”

Getting Personal With Shemar Moore
Moore previously dated professional soccer player Shawna Gordon from 2014 to 2015. Then, in 2018, he started dating former Quantico actress Anabelle Acosta, but the couple is reportedly no longer together.
