NBC released its official trailer for Justin Hartley’s new primetime show “This Is Us” over the weekend and within minutes, fans questioned whether Hartley would do both roles or leave “The Young and the Restless” behind. Rumors have spread all over social media and Y&R viewers want answers.
Neither CBS or Hartley have confirmed or denied the rumors. The only statement released came from CBS. telling Soaps In Depth that “it’s show policy that we don’t comment on the contract status of the cast.”
Thankfully, Hartley has a history of playing two roles at once. He played the role of Scott on “Mistresses” when he first joined Y&R. Later, he starred in the movie “The Challenger.”
Even early in his career, he played Fox Crane on “Passions” when he landed the role of Green Arrow on “Smallville.” During his time as a superhero, he also worked on the sci-fi series “Gemini Division.”
It seems Hartley is a master at hopping from set to set and staying in character, so there’s no real reason to think he’s leaving Y&R. Why not be one of the biggest daytime stars while playing double duty in primetime?
As of right now, there’s no word that Hartley plans to leave. However, if he does, will Y&R find an even better recast for Adam? No one thought Michael Muhney was replaceable, but Hartley proved himself almost immediately.
