The revolving door at the Genoa City Athletic Club entrance has nothing on the cast changes going on at The Young and the Restless these days! Two actors have now wrapped up taping their final scenes.
Jordi Vilasuso (Rey) took to Instagram to share that his TV brother Jason Canela (Arturo) and his TV wife Noemi Gonzalez (Mia) have taped their final episodes. Soaps (with the exception of Days Of Our Lives) tape approximately a month ahead of what’s airing (give or take a week), so it’s likely we’ll see Arturo and Mia into May sweeps.
“Feel blessed to have had @jasoncanela and @iamnoemigonzalez become like family to me,” Vilasuso posted. “My heart broke today as they filmed their last scenes and are moving along in their journey. They have inspired me beyond belief and I’m SO GRATEFUL to not only have worked with them but also to have grown with them. Here’s to my Rosales familia!”
It’s unclear how the two characters will be written off. Currently, Mia is pregnant (much to her surprise) and Arturo could be the baby’s dad. If it comes out that he is, it’s possible that the two will leave town together. Perhaps the door will be left open for a return. Maybe Mia showing up after her baby is born will throw a wrench into Rey’s life if he turns out to be the dad after all.
Other casting changes at the show include Gina Tognoni exiting her role as Phyllis soon in light of Michelle Stafford (Nina, General Hospital) returning as the character she originated more than two decades ago. There’s been a Nate switch, too, with Sean Dominic taking over for Brooks Darnell, who joined the show last summer.
Are all these changes too much at once? Or, do you see the show being streamlined in a way that will entice lapsed viewers to return? Sound off in the comments below!
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
