The Young and the Restless recap for Tuesday, January 2, 2023, involved both Claire and Nikki taking a ride on the struggle bus as they dealt with their recent trauma courtesy of Jordan.
Young and the Restless Highlights
Also in this episode, Sally and Adam shared their own special Happy New Year moment. Nick opened up to Sharon about the Newman family ordeal. Adam finally found out about what his family recently experienced at the hands of Jordan. Victor called for peace in his family — especially between Nick and Adam. Cole and Victoria worried about Claire. And, Victoria made a very un-Victoria-like move. Now let’s dig deeper into what happened.
Merry New Year Moment for Adam and Sally
Adam (Mark Grossman) and Sally (Courtney Hope) shared a post-midnight Happy New Year moment where they came clean on what they did to ring in 2024. After flirting, reminiscing, and turning the clock back to relive the last 10 seconds of 2023, Sally gave Adam a peck on the cheek.

Inevitably, the cute moments briefly gave way to their trying to DTR — define their relationship. Were they dating or what? Sally couldn’t really come up with an answer. Later, she made the bold move of calling Adam and actually asking him out on a date.
Comfort and no Joy
Adam’s bubbly interaction with Sally provided all the joy among the Newman contingent. The rest of the family were, understandably, in a dark place. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) struggled with her urge to drink. She tried to turn to another bottle of vodka, but there were none to be found. Victor (Eric Braeden) explained that he removed all temptation from the ranch.
He comforted his wife on the couch where they reflected on the bad times when Nikki’s drinking was at its worst…including how she tried to self-medicate her pain away after the riding accident. But they got through it all with courage and strength. Nikki got sober before and she’d do it again.
At Crimson Lights, Nick (Joshua Morrow) turned to Sharon (Sharon Case) as a source of comfort and a shoulder to lean on. He told her everything about what Jordan (Colleen Zenk) did. And the emotional toll it’s going to take for Victoria (Amelia Heinle) to get through this with Claire and Cole. Nick wished Sharon could be Claire’s therapist.
In addition, Victoria and Cole (J. Eddie Peck) worried about both Claire (Hayley Erin) and Nikki. Cole felt they had reasons to be grateful like — Jordan being out of their lives, thanks to Nikki saving herself and their daughter (reflect on that moment here). But now it’s their job to step up for Claire and make sure that she knows she’s not alone…so that she doesn’t slip away from them.
Speaking of which, Claire was caught up in a world of pain, doubt, and insecurities. Clearly, she doesn’t think she deserves love and, in turn, that she’s not capable of loving anyone. And that Jordan basically threw her away, and never cared about her at all. She tried to resign herself to her present circumstances being forever alone and unlovable.
A Glimmer of Light, Hope, and Gratitude By Any Means Possible
After falling asleep in Victor’s arms, Nikki experienced a nightmare-less slumber for the first time since Jordan entered her life. That’s one of the things Nikki explained to her AA group. She told them how it helped to have her husband’s support. But she knows from here on out, she can’t lean on him to get through this. He can’t keep her sober, she has to face her own demons.
At Claire’s bedside, Cole hoped she wasn’t going someplace inside where they couldn’t reach. Meanwhile, at Newman Enterprises, Adam finally found out about Jordan, Claire, and everything his family went through. Despite his disbelief over being kept in the dark, Adam did fall in line. And Victor told his family their collective goal for 2024 will be to work together. No more fighting for Adam and Nicholas!
Also, Sharon offered her ear and her support to Victoria, who expressed doubts about what she was doing and what she was going to do. But Sharon’s words helped her come to a conclusion, which she told her family when she joined them at Newman. She’s taking a leave of absence from the company to devote herself and her time to Claire’s recovery.
