In 1993, Victor — having decided to put Genoa City in his rearview mirror for a time — was the victim of a violent carjacking and his assailant was later killed while driving the stolen vehicle.

Since the remains were so badly burned – and had been identified as belonging to the car’s owner — Victor decided to take advantage of the situation and stay dead — for the time being at least.

Shady Ladies
Two scorned women nearly proved to be Victor’s downfall. First up was the psychotic Mary Jo Mason (Diana Barton) who pumped Victor full of lead to keep her wicked past from becoming public knowledge.

He managed to survive this attempted murder without major repercussions but when his loony partner in crime — Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) — betrayed him and put three bullets into his chest, Victor almost met his maker.

And had it not been for an emergency heart transplant there is little doubt it would have been curtains for the Newman patriarch.

Black Widow
A third murder minded female set her sights on Victor. This time it was his former rescuer — Meggie McLaine (Sean Young) — whose wicked plan she herself summed up as, “By this afternoon, he’ll be my husband. By tonight, I’ll be his widow. And by this time tomorrow, the Newman fortune will be mine…” Luckily, Victor was wise to her scheme and managed to save himself from a Viagra-induced heart attack.

Self Help
The last evil doer that Victor had to extricate himself from was slimy cult leader Ian Ward (Ray Wise). First, Ian set Newman Enterprises a light and left Victor — and most of Genoa City’s glitterati — to die in the blazing inferno.

Then, when both men found themselves housed in the same prison, Ian paid another inmate to ambush a sleeping Victor and shank him! Victor was indeed wounded but managed to emerge relatively unscathed.

So, if the past 39 years are any indication of future events it’s probably safe to assume something more is going on in Genoa City than meets the eye. Or, maybe not… CouldThe Great Victor Newman REALLY be dead this time? The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
