The Young and the Restless recap for May 11-15, 2020 features a dip into the soap’s archives and a celebration of its many raucous rivalries.

The Young and the Restless Recap Highlights

If there are two things that YR is known for, it’s their epic, romance novel-inspired couplings and the decades-spanning conflict that can exist between their characters.

This show has played host to daytime TV’s longest-running feud – Katherine (Jeanne Cooper) vs Jill (Jess Walton) – and it has also been home to a never-ending series of combative interactions between corporate titans Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Victor Newman (Eric Braden).

And that’s what was on display all this week – plus an episode devoted to a catty exchange between Hilary Curtis (Mishael Morgan) and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), the formers soon-to-be step-daughter turned sister-in-law.

A Long Time Coming

Katherine and Jill fought over many things throughout the years – you could almost call it their favorite pastime But the biggest bone of contention was the circumstances surrounding Jill’s involvement with Phillip Chancellor, Katherine’s husband.

Jill called it true love. Katherine called it a tawdry affair. In any case, Jill became Phillip’s wife while the man was lying on his literal deathbed, and Katherine, in turn, had the ceremony declared invalid and stripped Jill of what was rightfully her inheritance.

In 1998, some 23 years later, Jill was determined to right that wrong. But first she and that “pathetic old woman” needed to have a reckoning. Blows were exchanged, hair was ruffled. and Katherine was nearly strangled to death – hey, at least she could have joined Phillip in the great beyond. That really would have been sticking it to Jill!

Like A Phoenix

Two episodes were dedicated to the Odysseus-like triumphs of Victor Newman. In the first, he returned to Genoa City – fresh off Hope Adams farm – to both prove that the rumors of his death via exploding car had been greatly exaggerated. He was ready to oust Jack from the CEO position at Newman Enterprises.

Six years later, another presumed death (this time due to a downed airplane), another miraculous resurrection timed to combat Jack’s ascent to the Newman throne.

The Battling Blondes

There are two people that Nikki just can’t abide: Ashley Abbott and Sharon Collins. And since Ashley wasn’t around, and Sharon was currently occupying the title of Mrs. Victor Newman, it was she who became the object of Nikki’s violent ire.

Lily vs. Hilary

Lily didn’t like the idea of Devon courting Hilary. But what she REALLY didn’t like was the fact that Neil had allowed himself to fall for the woman’s charms. And she let her displeasure be known with the aid of a container full of water and a few choice words…like “bitch.” The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
