Phyllis and Patty’s GCAC Showdown

On Wednesday’s episode, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) recognized Patty (Stacy Haiduk) by the staircase at the Genoa City Athletic Club. She was clearly shaken to see her back in town. Patty wondered why Phyllis still held a grudge after all these years.

Phyllis reminded Patty of her dark past. Out of her intense obsession and jealousy, Patty poisoned Summer when she was a little girl. Patty caused an allergic reaction when she gave Summer a peanut butter-tainted kiss.

At the time, Patty was doing it to remove Phyllis from Jack’s (Peter Bergman) life. However, the plan backfired. Phyllis admitted that what Patty did was so unforgiveable, she could never be pleasant to her.

There was a clear motive behind Patty’s actions. She was obsessed with Jack and was enraged when he saw him with Phyllis. Patty was aware of Summer’s peanut allergy and took advantage of the moment. Summer went into anaphylactic shock, which resulted in a coma and long-term rehabilitation.

However, Patty’s plan failed because it brought Phyllis and Jack closer together. Phyllis believed that Patty tried to kill her daughter, so she would hold a grudge for the rest of her life. She wanted to know why Patty was back in Genoa City.

Does Patty Deserve Forgiveness Like Phyllis?

Patty mentioned that Phyllis’s daughter was alive and well. She also noted that Phyllis has received enough forgiveness that she should be willing to offer some to her. Phyllis has done her share of crimes, including faking her own death.

Her kids managed to forgive her for that. Now, Phyllis is in the midst of a corporate shakedown, which her kids claim is unforgivable. Both Phyllis and Patty have criminal histories that are marked by obsession and violent actions.

But most of Phyllis’s crimes are driven by a desire to protect her best interests or her children. Meanwhile, Patty’s crimes are driven by psychological instability and an ongoing obsession with Jack.

Phyllis operates with a “sound mind,” while Patty acts out of delusion. But Phyllis has been criticized for causing her own kids emotional distress. Some would even say her most unforgivable crime was drugging Danny (Michael Damian) to conceive a child.

Phyllis attempted to redeem herself in the past. But she ruined it when she faked her own death to frame Diane (Susan Walters). Do you agree with Patty that Phyllis should extend grace and forgiveness? Or do you side with Phyllis?
