Victoria Newman Locke, played by actress Amelia Heinle, on The Young and the Restless has made it official! Victoria and Ashland Locke are now husband and wife. The couple went through with their marriage despite opposition from Victoria’s ex-husband Billy Abbott and other obstacles. Now, the question is how long will the couple stay together? Actress Amelia Heinle is delving into the long-term viability of their union.
Amelia Heinle Talks First Year of Her Y&R Marriage
The couple had a whirlwind romance having only met earlier this year. Aside from the conflicts over business dealings, Ashland’s (Richard Burgi) former wife Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner), his son Harrison (Kellen Enriquez), and Ashland’s true origins, the couple is also facing Ashland’s mortality given his recent diagnosis.
Has Victoria (Amelia Heinle) truly come to terms with Ashland maybe dying? “She’s taking it day-to-day,” Heinle tells Soap Hub. “The way in which they got engaged was a spur-of-the-moment decision. She was like, ‘Let’s just do it.'”
Her fondness for Ashland and his desire to let him die a happy man certainly played roles in her popping the question. How did she truly feel then as opposed to how she feels now that she is officially Mrs. Ashland Locke? “I don’t know if she was that in love with him back then,” Heinle muses. “But she is now. At first, she was like ‘You don’t have long to live so, let’s do it. But now he’s living.”

Victoria Loves Ashland
If there was a part of Victoria that didn’t expect to be in this for the long haul, she no longer feels that way. “The more he lives, the more she loves,” Amelia Heinle softly offers. Ashland wouldn’t be the first soap opera character facing a terminal illness only to find out that a second diagnosis can lead to a second lease on life.
The bride’s mother Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) thought she was dying which got Victor (Eric Braeden) to change his mind about the future of their marriage. Nikki went into remission only to keep her good fortune close to the vest. Time will tell if Ashland receives his own reprieve.
