As Dr. Elena Dawson on The Young and the Restless, Brytni Sarpy can help fictional characters in medical need. However, in real life, the actress is asking for prayers for her beloved dad, Mel, who is undergoing surgery later this week.
Brytni Sarpy Asks For Prayers For Her Beloved Father
“Imagine getting surgery, AND not being allowed to have even 1 visitor post-op, but still smiling and fighting like a champ less than 24 hours later,” Brytni Sarpy wrote in an Instagram post along with sharing a family photo. “You sir, are the epitome of strength and making life look much easier than it actually is. Thank you for giving me my backbone and courage. Everyone wish M. Sarp a happy birthday and please keep him in your thoughts, prayers, and meditations for a successful second surgery this week…”
Sarpy’s pals in the daytime community showered the actress’s post with supportive comments. Her real-life beau and co-star Bryton James (Devon Hamilton) used emojis to express his thoughts. He posted a pair of flexing biceps bookending a heart. “Done!!!” wrote Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers). “Many MANY great thoughts and intentions for a perfect outcome!!”
“Sending love and good thoughts,” wrote Tamara Braun (Ava Vitali, Days of our Lives), who worked with Sarpy when both were on General Hospital as Kim and Valerie, respectively.

The Young and the Restless’s Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman) posted a heart sign as did Lauralee Bell (Christine Blair Williams) along with the prayer symbol emoji. Sarpy’s on-screen leading man, Sean Dominic (Nate Hastings), posted three prayer symbol emojis followed by the word “done.” Former co-star Loren Lott (ex-Ana Hamilton) wished Brytni Sarpy’s dad a happy birthday and added two blue heart emojis along with two prayer emojis.
Sarpy Receives Support From Daytime Pals
Other co-stars chimed in with support, too. Jordi Vilasuso (Rey Rosales) posted six prayer symbol emojis. Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe Mitchell) posted four red heart emojis and wrote “sending healing vibes!!! Happy bday!!!” Former General Hospital star Ryan Carnes (ex-Lucas Jones) posted three heart emojis and wrote “sending love and prayers for ease and grace.”
Brytni Sarpy and Carnes played cousins on GH as her character Valerie Spencer’s mother was the late Patricia Spencer (Dee Wallace), sister to Lucas’s mother Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman). Soap Hub joins Brytni Sarpy’s friends and followers in wishing her dad both a successful surgery and a happy birthday.
