The Young and the Restless’ Joshua Morrow Speaks Out Against Drunk Driving

Not only did Faith’s problem with alcohol and car wreck bring together her parents Nick and Sharon, but the storyline also teamed MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) with Joshua Morrow, Nick’s portrayer, and Josh Griffith, head writer of The Young and the Restless.

Joshua Morrow Steps Up For MADD

Morrow did a PSA (Public Service Announcement) warning about the dangers of drunk driving. “One in four car crashes with teenagers involve an underage drunk driver,” Morrow said in a segment shot in Sharon (Sharon Case) and Rey’s (Jordi Vilasuso) home. “To learn more about how to prevent underage drinking, go to MADD or call 877-623-3435.”

The scribe for the top-rated soap spoke to MADD about the storyline and why the show is telling this particular tale involving Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind), alcohol, and driving.

“Faith is tough on the outside but still very young, very fragile, and developing emotionally,” Griffith told MADD, noting that Faith reached out to alcohol to deal with problems related to peer pressure and cyber-bullying. “What’s the logical outcome of this? It’s a valuable, teachable lesson.

“I’m hoping people will really take a serious look at how dangerous underage drinking can be,” the scribe adds. “There are horrible consequences. We can never let up on putting that message out there.”

As veteran YR viewers recall, Faith’s sister Cassie (Camryn Grimes) died after injuries she sustained in a car wreck involving alcohol. Cassie’s story had a bit of a twist, however. The teen girl wasn’t drunk, but rather her older passenger, Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), whom she was crushing on, was. Cassie took the wheel because she thought Daniel shouldn’t be driving.

Alas, Cassie should not have been either. She was too young and inexperienced a driver and she ended up crashing the car. In Faith’s case, she was both drinking and driving. On Cassie’s death bed, she told Nick and Sharon that someday they’d have another daughter, which they did (Faith). The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS.
