Here’s Why Tucker Is Gaslighting Ashley On Y&R

On The Young and the Restless, Ashley is convinced that Tucker is trying to trick her into believing he wasn’t violent during their Paris breakup, even though her family believes otherwise. Tucker is a pretty bad guy. We wouldn’t put anything past him. But the question remains: What does Tucker have to gain from making Ashley doubt her memory? Tucker is all about money and power, but what if this latest scheme isn’t about that?

Let’s be honest: Nobody likes to be rejected. Everyone looks for a justification, for a way to believe that the rejection wasn’t their fault. The other person just didn’t understand their value. The other person is…crazy.

If we’re to believe that Tucker (Trevor St. John) truly loved Ashley (Eileen Davidson), then we also have to believe that Tucker was devastated when she refused to put him ahead of her family. What kind of woman would do that? What kind of woman wouldn’t put Tucker first?

A crazy woman, that’s who! Ashley was obviously crazy when she rejected him. How can Tucker prove that? If not to her, then at least to himself — and to the rest of the world. Because even the Abbott family believes that Ashley is going crazy, so Tucker will be vindicated, won’t he? Ashley is crazy. Dumping Tucker was crazy. She is to blame. Not him.

Let’s Start at the Very Beginning

And where did this compulsion of Tucker’s begin? How about at birth? How about the first woman who rejected Tucker? How about his mother? How about Kay (Jeanne Cooper)? Kay gave Tucker away. She prioritized her life as a Chancellor over her son. Over Tucker. Why would she do that? How could she do that? Was it Tucker’s fault? No, it couldn’t have been Tucker’s fault. It was Kay’s fault. She must have been crazy to do that. It’s always the mother’s fault…right?
