Melody Thomas Scott opted out of a traditional on-set celebration to honor her anniversary (45 years) as Nikki Newman on The Young and the Restless. Instead, she and fellow cast members, including TV husband Eric Braeden, who plays Victor, participated in a charitable endeavor.

Scott and Braeden, along with castmates Lauralee Bell (Christine Blair Williams), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers), Colleen Zenk (Jordan), and Tracey Bregman (Lauren Fenmore Baldwin) stopped by Project Angel Food in Los Angeles to support the organization’s mission.

The actors helped prepare special meals for 2500 critically ill men, women, and children across L.A. County. Scott thanked Project Angel Food for “providing us the opportunity to give back to our great community.”

The actress added on her Instagram account: “To my beloved colleagues and friends who joined me yesterday by volunteering to commemorate my 45 years at [The Young and the Restless], my many thanks! I love you dearly! To Project Angel Food for providing us the opportunity to give back to our great community. Thank you, Richard Ayoub [Chief Executive Officer, Project Angel Food], for your leadership.

“And to my fans – It’s been 45 years on this extraordinary journey, and I am grateful you continue to come along with me! Keep watching!” added Scott, sealing her post with a heart emoji.

“This organization serves free food to thousands of special needs people all over LA COUNTY! It is MELODY’s (NIKKI’S) 45th anniversary, and she wanted to celebrate it here!” Braeden shared in an Instagram post.

“It was the best day Mel! Thank you for including me!” posted Lauralee Bell. “And Congrats on 45 amazing years as the incredible Nikki Newman as only you could do!”

“As if [Melody Thomas Scott] isn’t amazing enough, she chose to celebrate her 45th anniversary of [Y&R] at Project Angel Food,” shared Lauralee Bell. “We all felt so special to be a part of her day working for this incredible organization that is life-changing to so many! Thank you to all that helped us in the kitchen. Great meeting you Richard Ayoub. Thank you as always [Y&R publicist] Matt Kane. Happy Anniversary Mel.”

Scott joined Y&R in February 1979. She evolved from stripping at the Bayou to becoming one of Genoa City’s most respected citizens. The actress is the show’s longest-running cast member. In 1999, she was honored by her peers and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a nomination in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Project Angel Food started in 1989, providing a beacon of hope in L.A. County, delivering more than 1.5 million free, medically tailored meals yearly to individuals with life-threatening illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, renal disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and HIV/AIDS. Project Angel Food supports more than 4000 clients annually thanks in part to thousands of volunteers, who, like Scott and the cast of Y&R, show compassion and dedication.
