On the February 29, 2024 episode of The Young and the Restless Chelsea, Billy, and Adam clashed with each other over Connor Newman. These adults sure are worried about the young teen. However, it’s possible that they’re concerned about the wrong Newman grandson.
First, Connor (Judah Mackey) was unhappy that his dad was having another baby. Then, he was unhappy that the baby died and Connor wasn’t the central figure in that tragedy. Then, he was unhappy that his mother had her own problems, so Connor demanded to be sent to a school that would focus exclusively on him. Connor got his way, naturally. But then he found something to be unhappy about there, and now Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Adam (Mark Grossman) are off to the rescue. Billy (Jason Thompson) is coming along, too. Because, sure, why not? It’s not like Billy has a son of his own who might be having some troubles.
Does anybody remember Johnny (Paxton Mishkind)? The kid who, a year ago, was blindsided by the news that his biological mother was his “cousin” Connor’s mom, Chelsea? While Connor got to whine about his mom obviously doesn’t love him as much as she loves Johnny (because she gave away Johnny but kept him; sure, that makes total sense, kid), Johnny had barely expressed disinterest in getting to know Chelsea better before she dropped the bombshell that she’s tried to commit suicide.
Of course, she told Johnny that he shouldn’t blame himself for it. Oh, no, he had every right to feel the way he did, and Johnny should not, under any circumstances, think that his rejection of her was what drove Chelsea to the depths of despair. Chelsea would never, ever want to dump such a burden on her son, making him feel that her happiness was his responsibility. Where in the world would Johnny even get such a silly idea?
We didn’t even get to see Johnny deal with the issue of his new mother and sibling, as off he went back to boarding school. We hope he’s processed his trauma. Because here comes another one. Johnny doesn’t just have a new brother — he has a new sister, too, in the form of Claire (Hayley Erin).
Maybe Billy should let Adam deal with his son, while Billy stays in Genoa City and helps Victoria (Amelia Heinle) fill Johnny in about Claire (read why Adam won’t accept Claire). Though, in Billy’s defense, we don’t think Victoria has told him yet, either. We can only hope that, once he does find out, Billy’s first thought won’t be, “Oh, noes, how will Connor handle having a new cousin?” and he’ll remember that Johnny should be his priority.
