While Abby and Devon freak out about Dominic’s kidnapping, as of the January 29 episode of The Young and the Restless, viewers are pretty confident they know who did it. Obviously, it’s Mariah. We saw her talking to Ghost Ian about snatching the baby she gave birth to, and then we saw Mariah with Dominic in the car, feeding him cookies, and playing hide-and-seek in their hotel room. But who really talked Mariah into committing her crime…and why?

Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) mental health has been fragile ever since she returned from Chicago, where she did not kill a strange man with a pillow for no particular reason. She pulled away from Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and baby Aria, and eventually fixated on Dominic (Ethan Ray Clark), the surrogate son she gave birth to for Abby (Melissa Ordway, who explained how she tapped into fear). That seemed to come out of nowhere.

Mariah didn’t just deliver Dominic for Abby. She did it for Abby’s then-husband, Chance (Conner Floyd), too. Devon (Bryton James) was the sperm donor. But that was all he was supposed to be.
Devon changed his mind, and he and Abby had an affair, and Abby and Chance split up, but both swore Chance would still be a part of Dominic’s life. That didn’t seem to be happening. And then Chance died. And now Dominic has one mom, one dad, and only two last names, Newman and Winters. Chancellor who?

Abby and Devon have forgotten Chance (except to claim him as Dominic’s guardian angel — not dad). But you know who we bet hasn’t forgotten Chance? His mother, Nina (Tricia Cast).
We bet Nina isn’t pleased to see Chance erased from Dominic’s life. So what if she wants to teach Abby and Devon a lesson?
We know Mariah wasn’t speaking to Ian (Ray Wise). He’s dead (unless he’s not. He did open his eyes). BUT what if Nina reached out to Mariah and played with her head until Mariah THOUGHT she was talking to Ian… but it was just her subconscious, manipulated by Nina?
