On the September 5 episode of The Young and the Restless, Chance told Billy he wanted to be co-CEO of Abbott-Chancellor. Not only is he actually a Chancellor, but he has experience with tense situations that are a lot more important than paper pushing. He also reassured Billy that he’s not the power-grabbing type.
Chance is happy to let Billy be the face and voice of the company. Chance doesn’t mind hanging out in the background, providing ground support. He’s used to that. We believe that Chance isn’t power-hungry. But we know who is. And we suspect that’s who is really behind this out-of-the-blue demand.
Chance (Conner Floyd — who talked with Soap Hub) told Billy (Jason Thompson) the truth: He’s not interested in sitting in the big chair, making the big decisions, and wielding the big stick. That’s more Billy’s deal.
Chance’s girlfriend, however, is a different story. Summer (Allison Lanier) loves being a wheeler dealer. She has worked so hard to run the company she built through blood, sweat, tears…and, oh, yeah, her father-in-law buying it for her. Summer doesn’t know any other way to move ahead in the corporate world, short of having a friend or relative give her a job opportunity. (Remember when horrible Sally [Courtney Hope] was horrible and horribly arranged for Summer to get her dream job in Italy?)
So when Summer heard about the turmoil at Abbott-Chancellor, she gently nudged Chance to claim a spot in his family company — do we really believe Chance wrote a corporate 10-year plan on his own? So that, when it happens, Summer can jump on board. And really show believe what a power hungry partner is like?

Obviously, Chance thinks that the ultimatum to Billy was all his idea, just like Summer thinks convincing Chance to go for it was all her idea. But we know how things play out in Genoa City. Nothing happens that Victor (Eric Braeden — who recently encouraged fans) doesn’t approve of happening.
It’s so obvious that Victor is the one behind this. He is using his granddaughter, who is using her boyfriend so that Victor can ultimately take over Abbott-Chancellor and stick it to Billy. Just like he explained to Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) when he also explained that Lily (Christel Khalil) would be collateral damage. Like Chance. And like his precious Summer.
