Victor Newman is the cornerstone of The Young and the Restless. He could never be duplicated. However, there will come a point when Victor is no longer around. Which one of his kids could carry on his legacy?
In a new interview with TV Insider, Eric Braeden shared his thoughts about retirement. He revealed that he has no intentions of walking away from the role he’s had for 44 years. Braden wasn’t supposed to be a mainstay on the soap.
But there was a time when he considered leaving the first year after his role. Braeden didn’t want to be typecast as a television villain. He played similar roles on primetime soaps and got sick of it by then. It was when William J. Bell created a backstory for Victor that made Braeden fall in love with the character and stay.
Despite his health issues, the 83-year-old feels good about his current situation. He has no retirement plans. “I will not; I don’t want to,” Braeden uttered in his signature deep voice. (Find Out More About Braeden’s Thoughts On Retirement.)
Sadly, there will be a time when Braeden won’t be on Y&R anymore. That means one of Victor’s kids will have to step into his shoes. Who would be the perfect person to become the next Victor Newman?
Obviously, no one could ever fill his shoes. But someone will have to carry on his legacy. Adam (Mark Grossman) was a strong contender. However, his character has been held back from being close to Victor’s equal.
Abby (Melissa Ordway — who is now off contract) has separated herself from Victor and his empire for a while now. She started running a hotel and then a restaurant. It doesn’t seem as if she’ll be the one to step up and take over his empire.
Victoria (Amelia Heinle) could eventually take over Newman Enterprises. For now, she seems focused on her family. Nick (Joshua Morrow) could also step up to the plate. A dark horse, admittedly, he shares some of his father’s characteristics, whether he likes to admit it or not.
Of course, no one could ever replace Braeden. There’s only one Victor Newman. His character is iconic. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comment section.
