The Young and the Restless (YR) star Kate Linder is celebrating a birthday today! She was born on November 2, 1947 in Pasadena, California.
Linder was cast in the role of Esther Valentine on Y&R in 1982. Initially, the character had no name and was just written as “maid” until one day Jeanne Cooper (ex-Katherine) called out “Esther” and the name stuck!
Over the years, the writers have thrown Esther into the middle of the action — she’s been kidnapped (twice) with Mrs. C. and during one of her kidnapping ordeals she gave birth to daughter Chloe (nee Kate), who was fathered by Tiny, a plumber.
Off-screen, Linder has lent her name to many charitable endeavors over the years including The ALS Association. She serves as a flight attendant for United Airlines. Currently, Linder is running for the position of Governor, Performer Peers Group for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Sadly, this year has been a very difficult one for Linder. The actress’ beloved husband, Ron Linder, passed away on June 19 of natural causes. The couple had wed on Valentine’s Day in 1976.
In 2010, Linder was awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Along with Y&R, her acting credits include the films The Charnel House, Better Off Single, and Mother’s Day, which starred Jennifer Aniston.
Soap Hub wishes the actress the best of birthdays, and you can tweet Linder your own birthday wishes with the link below.
