The good news is that The Young and the Restless is back taping episodes that may be on the air sometime soon. The bad news, says series star Eric Braeden, is that the cast members don’t get to work as directly as they once did with one another.
Eric Braeden: A Different World
As viewers saw on Access Hollywood, The Bold and the Beautiful tapes scenes using mannequins and dummies. They stand far apart from one another and don’t shoot scenes necessarily together. It stands to reason that YR is adopting a similar policy to adhere to safety protocols.
“Hope everyone is doing well!” Braeden, who has played Victor Newman since 1980, says. “New shows are being filmed right now! Nice to see everyone, although we don’t socialize while filming! Strange!!”
Fans concur that it’s odd to have the actors not interact as much, but they’re mostly happy that new shows are being produced. And, if BB is any indication, the show will do its best to recreate the same intimacy that existed in a pre-COVID-19 world.
“Bet that is very weird not getting to chat with your favorites,” posted @sandradeebee Can’t wait for new episodes. Hope you and your family are well, Eric.” Braeden replied: “Kind of strange, BEC some of us hug each other usually, but not now!”
“A strange way to ‘be’ on set, no doubt since after not seeing each other for so long, it must have been difficult not to go and hug each other,” noted @perfectrose2011. “There are many friendships between the cast.”
As BB is using real-life spouses as doubles for the show’s characters to show more intimate scenes, YR employs the same technique. Justin Gaston, Melissa Ordway’s (Abby) husband, has daytime experience having originated the role of Ben on Days of Our Lives could step in for Donny Boaz (Chance) when the script calls for Abby and Chance to be intimate. Bryton James (Devon) and Brytni Sarpy (Elena) are in a real-life relationship so, writers won’t have a problem crafting love scenes between them! The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
