Paul Williams has been a fan-favorite on The Young and the Restless since his debut in 1976 and to this day, fans miss his presence in Genoa City. Paul may be away, but actor Doug Davidson certainly has another reason to celebrate.
Happy Birthday, Doug Davidson
That’s because he was born on October 24, 1954, in Glendale, California, which means that this talented performer is turning 69 years old today! Before winning his audition for the role of Paul (originally no last name) Williams, Davidson had only two acting credits to his name: the feature film Fraternity Row and the made-for-TV chiller The Initiation of Sarah.
In his early years with the show, Davidson’s Paul was a cold-hearted Lothario who steamed up the sheets with a bevy of the show’s female characters, including Nikki Reed (Melody Thomas Scott) — the future Mrs. Victor Newman.
When the focus of the CBS serial shifted away from its two original clans — the upper-crust Brooks and the lower-income Fosters — its creator and steward, William J. Bell, decided to build a family around the popular Paul, and soon the character was interacting with his newly created kin — parents Carl Williams (Brett Hadley) and Mary Williams (Carolyn Conwell) and siblings Todd Williams (Corbin Bernsen), Steven Williams (David Winn), and Patty Williams (most recently Stacy Haiduk).
During his tenure with the soap, Davidson was paired opposite a number of leading ladies, resulting in a number of well-received couplings — the most significant being his long romance with Lauralee Bell’s Christine “Cricket” Blair.
Outside of The Young and the Restless, Doug Davidson is probably best known for his long association with both the CBS daytime game show The Price Is Right and the annual Tournament of the Roses Parade.
For a four-month period — between September 12, 1994, and January 27, 1995 — he hosted a five-night-a-week, syndicated version of The Price Is Right (called The NEW Price Is Right). From 1998 to 2003, Davidson played host to the televised aforementioned Roses Parade.
