Recently, soap vet Roscoe Born passed away. Tributes from former co-stars have followed the tragic news, but until now, the cause of his death had not been revealed.
Roscoe Born: Family Speaks Out
Born’s family has released an official statement on Facebook revealing that the actor had been suffering from bipolar disorder and died from suicide.
“It was with heavy hearts that we confirm the death of our father and brother Roscoe Born,” the statement read. “The gleaming charisma and creativity that shone through his onscreen performances, fueled his robust songwriting repertoire and charmed all those around him were matched by a darkness in his life.
“Roscoe has long struggled with bipolar disorder, a shadow that he succumbed to when he took his own life on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
“We are grateful for the outpouring of kind words and memories. We only wish that Roscoe could have seen how much people still carry his daytime villains in their hearts. May his death remind us of the importance of opening up conversations around mental illness. May those who need help seek it. May those who seek help receive it. And may it serve them.”
If you are thinking about committing suicide or if you know someone who is, there is help available by calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline toll free number: 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
Since the news of Born’s death became public, former co-stars of the actor have been posting tributes. “I’m deeply saddened to hear of Roscoe Born’s passing,” said Marg Helgenberger (ex-Siobhan, Ryan’s Hope; now a series regular on CBS’ All Rise). “My first acting job was on the soap #RyansHope, and Roscoe was a dream to work with. A generous, soulful & talented person. My thoughts are with his family & friends. May he rest in peace.”
“So sad to hear of the passing of my old friend Roscoe Born,” Andrea Evans (ex-Tina, One Life to Live) posted on her Twitter account. “I loved working with him. He was a sweet, dear soul. And whenever I hear Sade’s Smooth Operator I will smile & think of him. RIP.”
