Soap Hub Travel Tuesday: Conner Floyd Says Arrivederci to Italy

Chance Chancellor is keeping an eye on Genoa City as police chief on the Young and the Restless. However, in real life, his portrayer, Conner Floyd, recently checked out the sites of Italy. He’s sharing his memories with Soap Hub for our Travel Tuesday column.

Conner Floyd Travels to Italy

“It was my first time in not only Italy but anywhere in Europe,” Conner Floyd, a native of Austin, Texas, tells Soap Hub about his recent journey. “It was a learning experience.” The actor and his girlfriend landed in Rome and visited Positano, Capri, and Rome again during their eight-day excursion.

Floyd says he’s appreciative that his girlfriend made sure their itinerary was all mapped out, their paperwork had duplicates and was all in order. “I just showed up with a backpack,” Floyd says with a smile. “But she was very prepared. You can tell she got all ‘A’s’ in school. Her preparation helped us.”

One important part of international travel is checking your passport expiration date. In order to visit some countries, your passport can’t expire for six months from the date your travel begins. “We heard a nightmare story about [passports],” Floyd shares. “Our [rideshare] driver was telling us about her mom and her passport experience. Me? I’m very cautious. I want to make sure all the ‘t’s’ are crossed and the ‘i’s’ are dotted.

That’s Amore

“Every city we visited was absolutely amazing,” Floyd raves. “Positano is my favorite place on earth. You’re there, and you’re immediately in a good mood. We only had one day in Capri. I wish we could have had more. We were on one side of the island, exploring. We missed what was on the other side.”

The actor says there was so much to see in Rome that he also wished he could have had an extra day there. As fate would have it, he did! No sooner did he and his girlfriend high-five each other over their trip going so smoothly than they got alerts that their return flight was delayed. “We were ‘stuck’ in Rome one more night, so we knocked out one or two more places we hadn’t seen,” he says.

The actor advises padding your return date when possible when traveling, as flights can and do get delayed. His outbound trip included a stop in Boston to attend a wedding in Maine. “This was also my first time to [New England],” Floyd says. “The weather was unreal. We got some good seafood. The wedding was at a ski resort. No snow, but we took the lift up the mountain and got a good view of the area.”

On their way back, Floyd and his girlfriend flew 12 hours non-stop from Italy to Los Angeles. He definitely advises getting up and stretching your legs during long trips. Being a film buff helps pass the time. “I watched six movies on the way back,” he says. “I’d get up and get my stretch on, too.”

Conner Floyd: Travel 101

Floyd says he studied Italian in preparation for his trip. “I was doing well for a while,” he says. “I had the basics down, but, mostly, everybody [there] spoke English. That made it easy to communicate. Every now and then, I’d get a ‘bravo’ for saying, ‘grazie!'”

Travel guides are a great way to learn about where to visit. However, Floyd says nothing beats picking the brains of your pals who’ve already been to where you’re going. “We talked to a handful of people who gave us ‘do’s’ and ‘don’t’s,’ and we found that to be very helpful,” he says. “I think that’s why our trip was so successful. We got pointers from people. We were ready to rock as soon as we hit the ground.”

Not to mention the ocean. “The water was unreal,” Floyd shares. “We did a boat ride in Positano and to a beach club in Capri. The water was clear blue. You could see all the way down. The water is salty. You didn’t even have to really swim. You could just float along in it. It was cold, but not California cold. Those were my favorite days.”
