Later this week, Susan Lucci receives the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which airs on December 15. She’ll have a familiar face onstage when she accepts the honor.
People reported the news exclusively that in a full circle moment, The Young and the Restless star Shemar Moore will present the iconic daytime actress with the Emmy. Throughout her career on All My Children as Erica Kane, Lucci received 21 nominations at the Daytime Emmy Awards.
As many fans know, she didn’t win the statue until 1999, after 19 nominations. At that time, Moore was the one who presented her with her long-awaited Daytime Emmy. “The streak is over!” is how Moore announced Lucci’s big win.
Of her Lifetime Achievement Award, Lucci said in a statement, “I am truly humbled to receive this esteemed award from the Academy. Throughout my career, I have been incredibly fortunate to work alongside exceptional talents and embraced by my fans that have been with me every step of the way. This honor is not just a reflection of my journey, but a testament to the enduring power of storytelling and the profound connection we are so lucky to forge with audiences all over the world through television.”
Although Moore only occasionally returns to Y&R, he brought Malcolm Winters back to Genoa City earlier this year when the Winters family honored the late Neil Winters (the late Kristoff St. John). The S.W.A.T. actor also frequently presents at the Daytime Emmy Awards.
As for Lucci showing up on daytime, that’s something fans of General Hospital would love to see, especially after Erica’s love, Jackson Montgomery (Walt Willey) recently showed up in Port Charles (read our interview with him here.)
Soap Hub would like to congratulate Lucci on her Lifetime Achievement Award, and we look forward to seeing a repeat of Moore’s presentation to her.
