The Young and the Restless alum Sasha Calle appears in a brand new movie with an all-Latine cast and wonderful reviews. In the Summers, which has achieved success on the awards circuit, is about two sisters and their complicated relationship with their father.
Super Proud
Calle stars alongside René Pérez Joglar in this tale about the parent-child dynamic. The former Supergirl posted the official trailer on her Instagram account. She included a message showing her pride in the film that Indiewire calls “A Lovely, Delicate Portrait” and Forbes simply calls “Pitch Perfect.” The movie hits select theaters starting Sept. 20.
For her, being a part of In the Summers was everything. She wrote on her social media account, “This film is so beautiful. Everyone who worked on this film — they are beautiful. To have been one small part of it is an honor.
We made a film with an all-Latine cast and crew. Which was a dream come true for all of us,” Calle continued. “I hope audiences feel seen, represented, and heard.”
According to Calle, In the Summers‘ writer-director — Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio — won the Grand Jury Prize and the US Dramatic Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Also, in her Instagram message, she thanked her director, first-time filmmaker, and queer icon for being a fearless leader.
On Y&R, Calle played Lola Rosales Abbott. Lola was part of the Rosales family that then-EP and head writer Mal Young brought on en masse. Her character had a short-lived marriage with Kyle Abbott that ended after he admitted to kissing Summer Newman (then-Hunter King). Lola eventually left town to work as a guest chef at a restaurant in Miami.
Calle left the number one soap to play Supergirl. The actress stood out when she starred as Superman’s iconic cousin in The Flash movie. Unfortunately, due to behind-the-scenes turmoil at DC, she never starred in a solo movie. In fact, a new actress will play Supergirl in any upcoming films.
Coming up for Calle is a project called On Swift Horses, which also stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, and Will Poulter.
