The Real Reason Mark Grossman Wasn’t Thrilled About Adam And Chelsea Cheating On Young and the Restless

Since Chelsea and Adam slept together on The Young and the Restless, the two have had a difficult time getting past it. Adam Newman’s portrayer, Mark Grossman, actually wasn’t too excited to learn that his on-screen alter ego was going to cheat on Sally.

Once A Cheater…

Recently, Grossman spoke with Soap Opera Digest. They asked him about how he felt when he first learned about this storyline. “Honestly, my first reaction…I wasn’t thrilled that they were going to cheat,” he admitted. “Before my time [in the role of Adam], I think he kissed Sharon [Sharon Case] when he was with Chelsea [Melissa Claire Egan], but the way I always read Adam, he historically wasn’t a cheater, and he was with the woman he was with. That’s just who he was. So I was kind of bummed that he was going to cheat.”

Of course, as he dove into the arc, Grossman realized that the whole thing served a reasonable purpose. “Once I read the storyline, it made sense that [the circumstances] would lead someone to be unfaithful, and what Adam and Chelsea were going through with Connor [Judah Mackey] was really sad and traumatic, so it’s actually very realistic, the fact that Adam and Chelsea obviously have a special relationship because they share a son, plus there’s nobody that can understand what they’re going through except for them and you put them in the situation where they don’t know what to do.”

Grossman admitted that he and Egan appreciated the opportunity to play out the impending drama. “We were like, “Oh, my gosh, this is so juicy, and it’s going to be so much fun to play.” So, we were excited about it,” he said.

Even with the cheating and the fact that he shares a special bond with Chelsea, Adam actually does love Sally (Courtney Hope — who dealt with this mishap after winning a Daytime Emmy), which will make the fallout from this situation especially painful for everybody. Sally, especially, will struggle if she finds out the truth, and given the way Chelsea and Adam have been acting, it seems unlikely that the truth won’t eventually come out.
