Nikki is losing her mind yet again on The Young and the Restless. And drinking has nothing to do with it. Yes, Nikki has had a rough time lately. What with being kidnapped, force-fed vodka, hiding her drinking, and then going into rehab for a hot second. If she were angry and frustrated and vengeful over that, we’d get it. But she’s not. Victor was more obsessed with Jordan than she was. Since coming back from rehab, Nikki has been vaguely hostile towards Jordan. And very hostile towards Adam. We invite her to sit on the couch while we figure out why.
Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) is as obsessed with Adam (Mark Grossman) now, as she was a while back with Diane (Susan Walters). Remember when Nikki held her nose and joined forces with arch-enemies Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford — who is dealing with this injury) in order to drive Diane out of town? Diane, who was doing her best to keep her distance from them? Diane, who was no threat to them, whatsoever? This is just like that. Only worse.
Now, instead of Diane, Nikki is losing her mind over Adam. Rather, she is losing her mind over Victor’s (Eric Braeden) demand that Adam take over her job, so Nikki can rest. (Well, actually, it’s because Victor wants Adam to help him destroy Jack [Peter Bergman], and he knows Nikki won’t go for that. But Nikki doesn’t know that yet.)
To keep Adam from taking over her position, Nikki is emotionally blackmailing Victoria (Amelia Heinle) into joining forces with her. (Check out our thoughts on Victoria’s hypocrisy.) Even though she knows Victoria wants to focus on Claire (Hayley Erin) — and obey Daddy Dearest. She’s even ignoring the fact that Nick (Joshua Morrow) doesn’t hate his little brother anymore. Because, once again, Nikki is on a warpath. Why?
The answer, as always, is Victor. Victor is making all of this happen. Even if, as always, he claims he’s doing it for his family’s own good. Victor was the reason Nikki was once charged with killing Diane. Victor was the reason Jordan (Colleen Zenk) came after Nikki. Victor is the reason she’s being removed from her job.
Of course, Nikki can’t rail against Victor. He would never allow it, and he’d make her suffer if she did. So Nikki strikes out at the people around Victor. It’s a very, very healthy way to live. And won’t drive her to drink at all.
