Victor has made his The Young and the Restless marching orders clear to Nikki. She is to use Katherine’s memory to make sure Lily sides with them over Billy when Victor takes over Chancellor Industries (uhm, sorry, Abbott-Chancellor). To that end, Nikki invited Lily to tea on the August 29 episode — how civilized. She plans to read Lily some of Kay’s writings. Or, at least, what Nikki claims is Kay’s writings.
Fantasy Island
Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), as we all know, has no problem with lying. And Nikki, as we all know, lives to please Victor (Eric Braeden — who urged fans to do this). So if she has to please Victor by lying, well, then it’s all in a day’s work of being a devoted wife. How else would she and Victor be in their fortieth year of marriage…if you don’t count all the divorces and marriages to other people in between?
And if Nikki has to. lie to Lily (Christel Khalil), a woman she’s known since the day she was born; well, that’s even better. They’re practically family. And nothing is more important to the Newmans than family. This is their way of proving they consider Lily one of them!
Famous Last Words
We suspect Nikki could go back and re-read every letter, birthday, Christmas, and Arbor Day card Kay (Jeanne Cooper — who we still miss) ever sent her, and she still won’t find a letter that basically says: Billy Abbott is a loser. Never, ever let him near my company, and, if he ever does somehow get near it, make sure to listen to whatever Victor and Nikki say about it, they are always right. Love, Kay.
But it’s obviously what she would have written — if only she’d thought of it. So Nikki forging a missive from her mentor wouldn’t be a lie exactly. She’d only be doing what Kay always meant to do but never quite got around to before her death. She would, in effect, be honoring Kay’s final wishes. If only she’d known she had them.
