The Young and the Restless has recently set the soap universe on fire with a series of casting announcements featuring alums from General Hospital and Days of Our Lives. Y&R has plucked soap vets Tamara Braun, Roger Howarth, Matt Cohen, and Lucas Adams from GH and DOOL (Braun was on both). Now, we’re finding out about what their characters will be up to when they start appearing on the CBS soap this fall.
LA Noir or Bust
According to Y&R headwriter and executive producer Josh Griffith, these new additions will be involved in the same storyline. In a preview with TV Insider, Griffith didn’t fill in the blanks on Howarth’s mystery role, but he did say that the newbies are “all tied into the same story.”
And that story has to do with a just-returned Noah (Lucas Adams) as well as Noah’s parents — Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nick (Joshua Morrow). It’s a major L.A. Noir-type tale where Sharon and Nick will work “to save Noah from a very dangerous situation.”
That means there’s a big possibility that Tamara (Sienna Bacall) and Roger will channel their inner villains again. They have both been there, done that on more than one occasion. Most recently, Braun played former mafia princess Ava Vitali on DOOL, who fled from Salem as a suspect in the attempted murder of EJ DiMera (it wasn’t her).
Meanwhile, Howarth played Todd Manning on One Life to Live and several iterations, including Todd on GH. He left the ABC daytime drama as Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt, a character who had shady leanings, who was murdered.
This is a reunion for Braun and Adams. The two played mother and son, Ava and Tripp Dalton, on DOOL. When Adams brings Noah Newman back, “he’s a little edgier,” Griffith teased. “He’s a little more independent of being a Newman now, which is going to create some conflict with his dad.”
Nick and Sharon’s Involvement
Look for Cohen’s character, Detective Burrow, to also be included in this story arc. The head writer revealed that Sharon and Nick will travel to Los Angeles “as they try to save Noah from going down a dangerous path that will involve Roger Howarth’s character, Tamara Braun’s character, and Matt Cohen’s character.”
Griffith said that this mystery will energize Nick and Sharon’s story. “I think their connection has been energized,” the executive producer explained. And even though Nick and Sharon haven’t exactly reunited, this was “a really dramatic way to thrust them into this new story.”
Other Possibilities
With this LA-related business, there’s a chance that both Audra (Zuleyka Silver) and Holden (Nathan Owens) could also be involved. They keep talking about something happening in their L.A. past. And, of course, there’s history there between Audra and Noah.
