This week, actor Nathan Owens begins appearing on The Young and the Restless. His role is still a mystery, although fans have speculated that he is set to play Nate’s half-brother, Damian. This isn’t Owens’ first brush with daytime. From 2012 to 2013, he played Cameron Davis on Days of Our Lives. It’s twelve years later, and the Devious Maids alum recently reflected on the lessons he learned during his first daytime gig.

Played a Doctor on TV

Owens’ acting career was just beginning when he was cast on DAYS. Naturally, he didn’t know much about navigating the world of soaps. “I was so green,” he confessed to TV Insider. “I didn’t really know how to operate in that space and I kind of drowned a little bit because it was a bit difficult at that time.”

His DAYS character, Cameron Davis, was a doctor who needed to pay off a debt. So, he moonlighted as a male stripper. “I wasn’t as focused as I think I should have been for something so big.” However, Owens said he learned a lot from working in the medium, including showing him how to prepare for any scenario.

“I think my time there really gave me better insight going forward about preparing and focusing and having discipline to make sure that you’re there and professional and a good scene partner,” he revealed. “It really gave me a lot of tools for the rest of my acting career, not just in soaps. And I made some really good friends.”

After departing DAYS, he took those lessons with him. His primetime gigs included a two-season stint on Lifetime’s primetime soap Devious Maids. He also made a couple of key appearances on Fox’s 911: Lone Star. Most recently, he was one of the leads in the holiday flick A Season to Remember, which is currently streaming on Max.

According to TV Insider, Owens’ first day on Y&R is Wednesday, January 8. While his character will mix it up with Sean Dominic’s Nate and presumably Valarie Pettiford’s Amy, the actor’s also looking forward to reconnecting with Eileen Davidson, who played Kristen DiMera when he was on DAYS and, of course, stars as the iconic Ashley Abbott on Y&R.

“I haven’t seen Eileen Davidson yet, but she was over at DAYS when I was there, which is pretty cool. I’m looking forward to seeing her.”
