Much to Phyllis’s chagrin, Danny and Christine are spending time together these days in Genoa City. Michael Damian, who plays Danny, sat down with Soap Hub to talk about this Friday’s holiday episode of The Young and the Restless, which is one that Danny/Christine fans are going to want to see for sure!
If it hadn’t been for Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford) machinations, Danny never would have sent his then-wife Christine (Lauralee Bell) an overnight breakup letter all those years ago. (Read about Phyllis’s dirtiest deeds here.) But that’s not stopping the two exes, who’ve recently reconnected, from spending the holiday together. However, Phyllis might find a way to come between the two of them once again.
“I love that Danny’s always been about family — Mrs. Chancellor [Jeanne Cooper], Rex [Quinn Redeker], Gina [Patty Weaver],” Damian says. “There were so many wonderful episodes about family. They’ve all been popping up on social media, which is so great to see.”
On the one hand, Danny and Christine have never been closer; on the other, can they really reconnect beyond a certain point, as so many years have gone by? “There’s a lot of hesitation and anxiety in terms of Christine taking that chance again with Danny,” Damian points out. “Danny’s connection to Daniel [Michael Graziadei] is never going to go away. No matter what happens between Danny and Cricket, there’s always going to be that tie.”
Revisiting the Christine/Danny/Phyllis conflict is like turning back the clock. “There are still those trigger points that send us right back to the ’90s,” Damian offers. “The audience has been on that journey, and they can go with us. Everything can’t work out problem-free because [we need conflict].”
However, Phyllis may have to some day face the reality that she’s ignored for years. “Danny’s soulmate is Cricket — that’s a fact,” Damian shares, hastening to add that there’s history with Phyllis, too. “There is that magnetic connection with Phyllis. It’s quite fascinating what Josh [Griffith, executive producer/head writer] and his team have come up with.”
Might there be a Christmas Carol performance this year, too, as we’ve seen in the past? “Of course, a classic Christmas Carol is a must,” reveals Damian, who has released his own Christmas album this holiday season. It’s titled (what else?), “Michael Damian Christmas Album,” and it’s available now on iTunes and other music platforms.
