Amanda and Phyllis caught up on the February 27 episode of The Young and the Restless. Their discussion left people wondering…is Naya dead?
Where’s The Drama?
The friends had a normal conversation, catching up with each other, but something huge caught our attention. Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) gave Amanda (Mishael Morgan, who talked with us about Hilary and Amanda recently) her condolences on her mother, Naya Benedict, which means the show killed off Amanda and Hilary’s mother…off-screen.
For her work as Naya, Ptosha Storey was nominated for the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series in 2022. The storyline also helped net Morgan the history-making win of Daytime Emmy for Best Actress the same year for her work portraying Amanda Sinclair.
We found it incredibly odd that when Amanda and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) met at Crimson Lights for coffee, Phyllis said a few nice words about Amanda’s mom, telling her how sorry she was for Amanda’s loss. All Amanda said was she was happy for the time she did get with her mother. Moments later, she was all smiles and laughter as she and Phyllis said goodbye.
Of course, fans will remember that Amanda had only a brief time with Naya after she found out about her biological family. More recently, Naya was ill, and Amanda left Genoa City to help care for her mother out of state. Even so, it seemed surprising for Amanda to see so unaffected by the death of a woman she had such a complicated history with. Killing her off-screen also seemed like a wasted opportunity for some drama.
Who knows? Perhaps Amanda will be back for longer next time, and she will deal with the fallout of losing Naya. As for us, we’re absolutely sad to see the end of Storey’s storyline on the show. We certainly appreciated her wonderful performances, and she is missed.
