Michelle Stafford recently celebrated her 30th anniversary as Phyllis on The Young and the Restless. Throughout the years, her character has been involved in a lot of drama, mostly centered on her love life. But Stafford believes it’s time for Phyllis to break free of that cycle.
Phyllis has been paired with many of Y&R’s popular leading men, including Jack (Peter Bergman), Nick (Joshua Morrow), and Danny (Michael Damian). But the relationships weren’t without drama.
Whether it was Nick’s ex-wife Sharon (Sharon Case) or Jack’s scheming ex Diane (Susan Walters), a problem always arose in Phyllis’ romances. Although drama is a key element in any soap opera relationship, Stafford would love to see something different for Phyllis.
In an interview with TODAY.com, the actress discussed the possibility of Phyllis having a normal, healthy relationship. “It would be fantastic to actually have someone in her life that doesn’t bring all these problems. I don’t know if they’ll write that, but that would be fun to play,” Stafford explained. “Phyllis certainly could use it.”
Phyllis currently finds herself single, although the show has been hinting at a possible reunion with Nick. Her ex-husband has been a huge comfort in the aftermath of Heather’s (Vail Bloom) death. As Daniel (Michael Graziadei) faces suspicion for Heather’s murder, Nick will give Phyllis a shoulder to cry on.
But their budding reunion will be halted when Sharon is revealed to be Heather’s murderer. Nick again will be torn between his two greatest loves as he decides whether to support Phyllis or Sharon. No matter what he decides, Phyllis won’t be happy, which could alter Phick’s relationship forever.
