Out of all of the family squabbles populating the current landscape of The Young and the Restless, the fiercest may arguably be the one between Kyle Abbott and his back-from-the-dead mother, Diane. It’s unclear if Kyle remembers, but he approved his mom’s joining her husband, Jack, as co-CEO at Jabot. Fast forward a few months, and the relationship between mom and son is ice cold. Scratch that. It’s way past ice cold. It’s downright vicious. And it got even worse on June 27 when Diane fired Kyle.
Team Kyle or Team Diane?
If things weren’t bad enough, some outside forces are looking to pounce and take advantage of the toxicity among the Abbotts. Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), for one. He has high hopes of exploiting the bad blood. He’s looking to hire Kyle (Michael Mealor) away from Jabot and bring him into Glissade.
You see, Tucker’s (Trevor St. John) old company will instantly compete with Jabot. Well, maybe not in Jack’s (Peter Bergman) and Diane’s (Susan Walters) eyes since Glissade is, in essence, a start-up. But, at the end of the day, Glissade is a cosmetics company. A cocky kid like Kyle will, of course, think he can defeat the mammoth Jabot Cosmetics, especially since he loves to think he’s better than his mom. Soap Hub checked out X, Formerly Twitter, to see the consensus among Y&R fans. The people were vocal, including @missjennipher, who didn’t seem impressed with Kyle at all. She said, “As soon as Diane told Kyle something he did not like, he immediately started considering working with his father’s ‘enemy.’ That emotional reaction is exactly why he has no business being CEO at Jabot. He’s still throwing tantrums like a child. He’s not ready.”
Meanwhile, @beyourburden said she does not “get this Diane/Kyle stuff at all. He told Jack to give her the job. It’s ridiculous & annoying. #YR”
While the majority of posts leaned towards #TeamDiane, not everybody felt that way. Take @gramgreyeyes2, who said, “#yr OMG… How can Kyle not tell his Mother Diane…She said ‘Get in line or you’ll be fired.’ I would not have stuttered as I told her ‘I…was doing your job and very well for years while you was ‘playing’ dead!!! Now let’s see who needs to get in line!!!’ Diane would be toast!”
As for @JLMoonlight92, she calls out Kyle’s shady behavior. She wants to know “#yr why would Kyle lobby for Diane to have the co-ceo job he used to have but then treat her passive-aggressively once she got it. It was your idea. You wanted to earn your keep. Act like it, and don’t try to show up your mom and stonewall her when she confronts you about it.
Another X poster who weighed in was @alexismyname2. She stated emphatically that, “Kyle is no victim. He put himself in this situation with Diane. She’s not going to stand by and let him walk all over her. #yr”

Ditto @StephonJS87, who says, “Kyle acting like Diane wasn’t willing to reject the CoCEO position in favor of Kyle.”
Here’s someone who sympathizes with Kyle’s plight. @Charvettebey said, “Kyle never processed that Diane was back from the “dead.” They became a happy family again, burying that ish, she let her son think she was dead at 20 soap operas years. He should have been angry. #yr”
Firmly in the land of Team Diane is @truLogic94, who says, “I. know Y&R is not about to make Diane the villain again. She didn’t do anything wrong. Her husband almost KILLED himself. Kyle is trolling her even after she found for him for the CEO position, and HE suggested HER. Don’t be foolish with this! #YR”
On the opposite side of things (sort of) is @datvlover, who said, “Kyle’s been a douche, but Diane firing Kyle is crazy. This lady played dead for most of his life, and he stupidly welcomed her with open arms. She claimed she was keeping the seat Co-CEO seat warm until Kyle could take it, but it’s clear she likes the seat a little too much now #YR”
Finally, @Gwendol36287174 said: “Kyle gets inf front of Jack and plays all innocent when he’s been undermining Diane from day one. Jack better not rehire his butt. Let him go work for Victor! #YR”
